Temporary Fix for Leaking Faucet

How to temporarily stop a dripping faucet until the plumber arrives or replace the washer yourself.

4 min read

Introduction

A dripping faucet isn't just annoying - it can waste up to 20 liters of water per day. Sometimes the problem can be solved with a simple washer replacement.

Step by Step

  1. 1

Shut off water supply at the faucet or main valve.

  2. 2

Open the faucet to release remaining water and pressure.

  3. 3

Remove the faucet handle - usually held by a screw under a decorative cap.

  4. 4

Unscrew and replace the rubber washer or cartridge (depending on faucet type).

  5. 5

Reassemble and test by turning on water supply.

Warnings

  • Always shut off water first!
  • If you don't know the faucet type - better call a technician to avoid making the problem worse.

When to Call ABA?

If the faucet is old, corroded, or still leaks after washer replacement - better to replace the whole faucet. We can recommend the best options for your budget.
