In Latvia, water meters must be verified every 4 years. However, sometimes a meter can fail earlier. Here's how to spot it.
Step by Step

Check the verification date on the meter seal or certificate. If expired - needs replacement.

Turn off all faucets and check if meter wheels are spinning. If yes - there's a leak somewhere.

Compare consumption with previous months. A sharp increase may indicate a problem.

Listen - if the meter squeaks or crackles, it may have mechanical damage.
- 5
Check if the meter glass is clear and readings are visible. Fogged glass indicates moisture inside.
Warnings
- Never remove the seal yourself - this is an administrative violation!
- An unsealed or damaged meter may result in maximum tariff penalty coefficients.
