Water Heater Maintenance Signs
Signs that indicate your water heater needs maintenance or cleaning. How to extend boiler life.
Introduction
Electric water heaters require regular maintenance to last long and work efficiently. Liepaja's hard water promotes limescale buildup, making maintenance especially important.
Step by Step
- 1
Check water temperature - if lower than usual, the heating element may be covered with limescale.
- 2
Listen - if the heater makes crackling or humming sounds, it may indicate sediment.
- 3
Check the safety valve - it should periodically drip a little water (this is normal).
- 4
Watch the color - if hot water is yellowish or reddish, the anode may be worn.
- 5
Monitor bills - a sharp increase in electricity consumption may indicate heater inefficiency.
Warnings
- Only repair the boiler with electricity turned off!
- Improper anode replacement can permanently damage the tank.
- If the water is hot or the heater is running - wait until it cools down.

Pro Tip
Set temperature to 55-60°C. Higher temperature accelerates limescale formation, but lower can promote bacterial growth.
